Greenlink

Who Are We?

Greenlink is a partnership of south east Dorset's Local Authorities and the Countryside Agency, working together on countryside issues across the area. A group of officers from all the partner organisations meets regularly to agree a work programme, which is implemented by the two members of the Greenlink staff; the Project Co-ordinator and the Information Officer.

The Greenlink Partners are: Countryside Agency, Dorset County Council, East Dorset District Council, Christchurch Borough Council, Borough of Poole, Bournemouth Borough Council and Purbeck District Council. New Forest District Council is also represented.

What Do We Do?

In 1998 Greenlink produced "A Countryside Recreation Strategy For South East Dorset". This looks at ways to meet the challenges raised by an increasing number of people visiting fragile areas of countryside. We are now working on projects which aim to protect valuable habitats and rare wildlife, whilst ensuring that local people, and visitors, have access to the countryside. Our current projects include:

  • Greenways: A new Countryside Agency initiative aiming to develop a high quality network of walking, cycling and horse-riding routes, linking town and countryside.
  • Countryside Information: Publicising news and events from all the Greenlink partners plus other local environmental groups. The free Greenlink Guide is produced three times a year and we are now on-line at http://www.greenlink.co.uk
  • Dorset Heathlands: We are actively involved in protecting and promoting Dorset's heathland heritage, from local heathland events to the co-ordination of a bid for a major European funding package.
