12 new jobs as Costa Coffee opens drive-thru in Weymouth

Costa Coffee is celebrating the opening of its brand new drive-thru store today.

The store, on Souter Lane, is the second outlet to open as part of the major ‘Weymouth Gateway’ regeneration project by LondonMetric Property and Avercet.

Costa Coffee has promised “at least ten new jobs” in the local community, with the store itself employing 12 people.

It is one of more than 100 stores that Costa Coffee and its franchise partners plan to open throughout 2022 as it continues to invest across the country.

Mike Aldridge, Costa Coffee’s regional operations manager for the South West of England and the Midlands, said: “We are very proud to be opening our new store here in Weymouth and creating at least 10 new jobs for the local population.

“Our store, with its uplifting new design, offers coffee lovers the perfect place to grab their favorite coffee to go, or stop in for one of our classic platters. Our incredible team of baristas are delighted to welcome customers in the store for a perfect artisanal Costa coffee.

Developers LondonMetric Property and Avercet won planning permission to regenerate the long dormant site along Mercery Road in July 2021.

Featuring a Drive-Thru Lane for people on the go, the store is one of the first to boast an uplifting new in-store design that Costa Coffee is rolling out in the UK.

It offers a bright, warm and contemporary environment where guests can enjoy their favorite craft drinks in the comfort of modern furnishings.

The first unit opened ahead of schedule in May 2022 and two more units are expected to open before Christmas.

Once all the stores on the site are open, the project will generate approximately 280 full-time equivalent jobs, in addition to the 50 jobs already created throughout the construction period.

It is also expected to help create an additional 50 jobs locally through the associated economic improvement.

Chris Newns, Director of Avercet, said: “Despite supply chain issues in the construction industry, we are delighted to report that this project continues to be ahead of schedule and we expect that the last two approved units – for B&M and Dunelm – will also be on the site before Christmas.’

The new Costa Coffee store will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Sundays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.), with the Drive-Thru lane open until 8 p.m.
