Great Dorset Steam Fair will not be back in 2023

LA Great Dorset Steam Fair will not take place in 2023, organizers have announced.

In a statement, organizers said the event, to be held at Tarrant Hinton, would return in 2024 after a “thorough review” of this year’s event and the decision had been “extremely difficult” to make.

“Significant and spiraling” costs had been cited as the reasons for the decision.

A statement released by the organizers said: “After a thorough review of the 2022 show, it is with great sadness and disappointment that the Great Dorset Steam Fair Ltd Board of Directors has to announce that unfortunately we will be taking a one year break. year before running the next Grand Dorset Steam Fair event, which will now be held over the August Bank Holiday weekend in 2024.”

“This has been an extremely difficult decision for us to make. While the 2022 event was a fantastic and resounding success as a spectacle, it was mired by large and staggering increases in contractor and infrastructure costs and costs associated with meeting the necessary regulatory and statutory compliance that are commensurate with operating such a large-scale event.

“In short, as a major show, we have big costs, costs that have increased disproportionately this year and, more importantly, are very difficult to predict for next year in the current economic climate.”

Organizers said the events industry was still feeling the “severe financial repercussions” of the Covid pandemic, which, coupled with the consequences of Brexit and the war in Ukraine, led to “significant increases in staff, subcontractors, fuel, transport, material and equipment rental. prices.”

The statement continued: “While we appreciate it will come as a surprise to many, given the success of the 2022 event, as organizers of a major, large-scale event, we are acutely aware of the financial unknowns moving in 2023 with further cost increases likely. and our regular customers, exhibitors and traders are also feeling the financial pressure.

“With the current economic situation, rising inflation and the cost of living crisis, the reality is that it would be financially difficult for us to stage the event in 2023.

“It is neither prudent nor sensible to hold the show next year and in order to safeguard and preserve the future of The Great Dorset Steam Fair we believe this is the right decision to enable us to continue to organize a high quality event in 2024 and beyond.“

The Great Dorset Steam Fair will return between August 22-26, 2024.

Tickets for the 2024 event will go on sale beginning fall 2023.
