Country Music Awards fingerprints moved to Ashland for the first time

A fundraiser to support a music scholarship by the friends of Keith Whitley moved from his Nashville home to Ashland, Kentucky this year.

The event, called Keith Whitley Fingerprints on Country Music Awards, will take place at 7 p.m. at Park Place.

The show is hosted by the Friends of Keith Whitley, an organization that awards scholarships in memory of Whitley, said Pam Hall, account manager at Kindred Communication.

“And one of the fundraising activities that they do every year is the Keith Whitley Fingerprints on Country Music Awards and they’re bringing it to Ashland this year,” she said. It was previously held in Nashville. “I think this is the first year, I think it will only grow and be a very big thing for Ashland.”

The show will feature a mix of established and emerging artists, including Larry Cordle; Kenzie Wheeler, Voice finalist last season; Dove Award winner singer John Darin Rowsey; Colonel Dreyden Gordon, 17, of Grayson, Ky .; West Virginia Morgan White; Chase Likens, who was in American Idol season 20; Griffin Mason;

bluegrass / country artist Noah Wolford; and country singer Sean Poole.

The master of ceremonies will be the Big John Country Radio DJ.

Whitley was born in Ashland, Kentucky and raised in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.

He and his friend, Ricky Skaggs, were discovered by Ralph Stanley, who loved their playing and hired the pair for his band in 1974. Whitley rose to popularity for his bluegrass vocals and moved to Nashville in the early 1980s and made experienced solo success. and had 15 Top 40 singles. He died in 1989.

The goal of the Friends of Keith Whitley is to spotlight and promote new artists who play traditional country music and to reward artists in the genre.

Tickets for the show are $ 20 and tickets for the show and dinner are $ 40. Beginning of dinner at 5.30 p.m. Beginning of the show at 7 p.m.
