Dorset Council voted unanimously to implement a fee for Derby Park Campgrounds at their meeting on November 15.
Following the ruling, a cash machine and signage will be installed at the campgrounds as part of a “pay if you want” program.
Similar to a parking meter, those who are willing to pay will need to display a ticket for the number of nights they wish to stay.
Those who do not want to pay will not be required to do so, but the signage will explain that the payment will go directly to the maintenance of the Derby mountain bike trails.
âWe have consulted extensively with campers and have agreed that $ 20 per site per night is a reasonable charge with that money being directly reinvested in Derby’s cycle paths,â said Mayor Greg Howard.
“We are now waiting for the availability of the ATM, so it will be at least in a few months.”
